The Hut Byron Bay

The Hut is a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and event venue in Possum Creek, tucked into the Byron Bay hinterland. Set in the old O’Possum Creek Schoolhouse, it has a warm, intimate feel made for long lunches, shared plates and celebrations that feel generous and festive rather than overly formal.

The Hut has that rare ability to feel elevated without feeling stiff. The old schoolhouse, warm timber, open kitchen and surrounding countryside give it a really relaxed character, while the food and service still feel considered. It’s especially good for celebrations where the focus is on eating and drinking well and spending proper time together around the table. Food is really at the heart of the experience.

The menu is inspired by the Italian way of eating, with seasonal dishes designed to be shared and produce sourced from local farmers and fishermen.

From a Mondaine point of view, we love that the venue already has such a strong sense of identity, so it doesn’t need much added to it. A few thoughtful styling touches can sit alongside the food and architecture rather than compete with them. Their service team is exceptional making you feel at ease as soon as you step inside the restaurant.

We’ve previously worked here for Liv & Sam’s wedding reception, where the Italian restaurant was part of their three-part celebration and helped bring the European feeling they wanted for the day.
